Local Palate Magazine Fall Issue

Social distancing, a seemingly endless quarantine, and the shuttering of restaurants and bars has left us all with a heavy dose of wanderlust as we head into fall. You always want what you can’t have, and in this case, that can be as simple as venturing outside the same four walls you’ve seen since March. Here at TLP, we took this opportunity to reflect on some of our favorite destinations. Enter our fall issue, a travel guide stocked with hidden gems and longtime favorites, here to help you make a game plan to once again hit the open road.

Chart a course for the Chesapeake Bay to get your fill of Rappahannock oysters and Maryland blue crabs; stop in Washington, DC, along the way for a stiff drink at any number of storied haunts. Or make it your mission to find the best hot chicken in Nashville, pepperoni rolls in West Virginia, or bourbon in Kentucky. Or plan a food-fueled drive through the Mississippi Delta, braking for hot tamales and boudin every chance you get. Or to honor Black history as protests across the nation push for racial equality: The National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis, Montgomery’s National Memorial for Peace and Justice, and the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute are all good places to start.

Whatever your next trip may look like—whether you’re itching to explore a new destination or planning a much-needed staycation in your hometown—we hope you’ll find inspiration in these pages to carry you through.
