Build Your Own Gift Basket This Holiday Season

When it comes to holiday gifting, it’s easy to get caught up in the swing of wrapping paper, boxes, and bows. A few years back, I made a commitment to be mindful of my local economy, environmental impact, and intentionality behind each gift I put together during the holiday season. The result has been thoughtful gifts that are curated with the recipient in mind, while staying wholesome in their local and global impact.

My Top 3 Tips for Meaningful Gifting:

  1. Think Outside the Box: Yes, I’m talking about packaging here. Rather than wrapping your item in paper or stuffing it in a bag, consider thrifting a basket from your local thrift store. You’ll reduce waste, and have an additional item that can be cherished as part of the gift. Additionally, many thrift shops will donate proceeds to programs that have direct benefits to your local community.
  2. Shop Regional, Shop Local: Shopping small is something we’re often reminded to do, but aren’t faced with the realities of what this means to artisans and makers who receive direct proceeds from the products. Browse through our meet the maker stories to hear about what shopping our marketplace means to these regional Southern vendors.
  3. Be Thoughtful & Intentional: Curating a gift speaks volumes to the recipient. Maybe you’re gathering their favorite treats, or prepping a gift basket to go alongside their new grill. No matter your inspiration, intentionality will shine through a personally curated box every time.

For my loved ones this year, I’m thrifting baskets from my local Goodwill, filling them with an eco-friendly crinkle paper, then packing with curated items from our carefully selected Southern makers.
