The Local Palate Marketplace is pleased to welcome its two latest vendors, Calhoun Bend Mill and The Spirited Palate.
Inspired by his grandfather’s undertaking of creating the first grist mill in Monterey, Louisiana, Patrick Calhoun wanted Southern families to have access to local, fresh ingredients. Using stone-ground cornmeal from his farm, he reimagined his family’s recipes and created Calhoun Bend Mill.
Anyone looking for good, old-fashioned Southern food can find comfort in the mill’s many quick and easy mixes. Use Miss Haddie’s chicken fry mix for the perfect crispy and golden-brown chicken or try the Pecan Pie Mix, which only requires a few extra ingredients to create a classic buttery, nutty pie.
More than 25 years ago, Jonno and his wife Nanette moved to Charlottesville, North Carolina, and fell in love with the lush, sprawling vineyards. Their mutual interest in food and wine led them to create their now-famous Worcestershire sauce.
What started as a simple gift for family and friends has grown into a beloved product stocked on retail shelves. Slather the sauce on beef ribs, drizzle onto your favorite chicken salad recipe, or add a splash in your next ice-cold bloody mary.
Jonno’s Worcestershire sauce can be bought online or in select stores in Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina and can also be purchased through the Local Palate Marketplace.
